The first step is to remove the engine cover and serpentine belt.
I have outlined the steps for this in the DIY Serpentine Belt section
Now you need to lock the flywheel in place. I'm not sure if this process is different for manual cars. Feel free to email me if it is different!
To lock the flywheel, I took a small piece of metal plate and drilled two holes. I mounted the plate onto the flywheel along with a small spacer to keep the plate level.
|Now you can break loose the pulley bolt and remove the pulley. On my car the bolt is 24mm. You will hear a big crack as you break the bolt loose!|
|For preventative maitenance, you can now pull off the oil pump cover and replace the o-ring and crankshaft seal.
You need to pull off the massive C-clip and then carefully pry off the cover. Do not bother with those cheap Circlip pliers with changeable ends.
These will not hold together. I bought a cheap plier set from harbor freight for $10.
You should also note the two arrows. These need to be lined up when installing the cover back on the car.
You will get some oil on the ground, but not much.
To help pry off the cover, I used a large pair of adjustable pliers. I wiggled it until the seal broke and I could pull the cover straight out.
