9-5 Crank Shaft Position Sensor Introduction
The crankshaft position sensor is a common failure component for the 9-5. It only costs about $40 and it can be replaced in about 10-15 minutes.
If your car has over 100,000 miles and you have never replaced it, you should seriously do this as a preventative
maintenance item.
The symptoms of a bad sensor include poor running and slight missing of the engine. This is also a very similar symptom to a DIC failure.
If you are experiencing misses, you should replace the spark plugs first and see if that fixes the problem.
From there, the dealer using a Tech 2 unit should be able to tell you if the problem is the DIC, the CPS sensor, or a fuel issue.
For about the same amount of money as a tech II scan, you can replace the CPS sensor and see if problem goes away.

There are no special tools needed, other than a long ratchet with a swivel attachment. I did find that using a toothless
ratchet was better since space was limited.
These are high-end ratchets, but they are worth every dollar!
